BISON & BEAR WILDERNESS CAMPING ADVENTURE
Destination: Armenis, Carpathian Mountains, Romania
Duration: 13th - 20th September 2024
Group Size: 6-8 people; places still available
Age: 16+
Cost: 1395 euros
In collaboration with WWF Romania we will be running an expedition that focuses on the ecology of the European Bison and the European Brown bear. In the true spirit of the walking safari ethos we will camp out on mountain meadows that lace across spectacular ridge lines as we follow the Bison herd and explore valleys full of Brown bear signs...picking up their trails as they forage in nearby village orchards. This is a throw back trip for those that love hiking and are looking for an experience that connects you to the land again. As we walk and explore we learn how to reconnect to nature in a powerful and meaningful way. Its the simplicity of wild camping that gives you the respite needed from urban living. Here, the scenery, traditional culture and wilderness all collaborate to bring you the experience of a lifetime that will reignite your love and appreciation of the outdoors. As a designated Unesco World Heritage site, the Carpathian Beech/Beuk woodlands that we hike in are some of the most important European habitats around and house a vast array of species endemic to this area.
Alongside learning about the reintroduction and ecology of European Bison and learning how to trail such animals in a truly wild setting we will also be running various workshops on track and sign, rewilding, trailing, bird language and natural awareness. This truly is the trip of a lifetime and on your European doorstep!!

This trip includes wild camping and hiking in remote wilderness areas. A good level of fitness is required to walk with a loaded pack in between campsites. It must be said that this is not specifically a bushcraft course but is more about reconnecting with the natural world and understanding your place within it.
